Kicker Matt Bryant is back with the Falcons

It's official: Matt Bryant is back with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Falcons will announce their official 2019 roster on Saturday and Bryant is on it after agreeing to terms with the team. It also means his workout with the team on Friday went well.

The reason Bryant was brought in for a tryout – and why the Falcons also signed Blair Walsh a week ago – is because Giorgio Tavecchio has struggled this preseason.

On Thursday night against the Jaguars, Tavecchio went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts, but missed his lone field goal attempt, a 53-yarder in the second quarter. The miss was Tavecchio's third-straight, and his fourth in his last five attempts. Walsh made his first attempt against the Jaguars, a 46-yarder in the third quarter, but his second 46-yard attempt was blocked.

Bryant, 44, parted ways with the team during the offseason. He had signed with the Falcons prior to the 2009 season and left Atlanta as the leading scorer in franchise history with 1,122 points. His 158 points in 2016 is a Falcons single-season record.

Before bringing Bryant and signing Walsh, the Falcons had also worked out Elliot Fry and Younghoe Koo. Walsh, 29, is a former Georgia Bulldog and All-Pro kicker who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons with the Vikings, converting 84.2 percent of his field goals and 94.5 percent of his extra-point attempts. He was last with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017, where he made 72.4 percent of his field goal tries.

Kicker Matt Bryant is the Atlanta Falcons' all-time leading scorer.
