FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Falcons and the franchise's leader scorer, Matt Bryant, have parted ways after 10 seasons. During his tenure in Atlanta, Bryant set franchise records for most points in a season (158), most point after touchdowns (372), and field goals made (250).

The Falcons have a strong candidate in house to fill Bryant's position in Giorgio Tavecchio. When Bryant injured his hamstring in early October of the 2018 season, the Falcons signed Tavecchio and he didn't miss a beat.

Tavecchio was 5-of-5 on his field goal attempts and 8-of-8 on extra points in the three games he played. His most notable moment as a Falcon came when he kicked a 56-yard field goal to extend Atlanta's lead to 23-12 over the New York Giants.

Following his performance against the Giants in which he made all three field goal attempts, Tavecchio was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

When Bryant returned from his injury, Tavecchio remained on the roster for the rest of the season.

Prior to his time with the Falcons, Tavecchio spent time with three other teams: San Francisco (2012), Green Bay (2013), Oakland (2014-18) and Detroit (2013-2014).

Not only will the Falcons' special teams unit look different with a new kicker in place for the entire season, Dan Quinn hired a new coordinator to lead the unit with Ben Kotwica taking the reins.
